Mae Hong Son to Myanmar

Mae Hong Son has 483 km. of territory connected with Myanmar, and every district of Mae Hong Son has territory connected to Myanmar along the border, and it has the routes for people of 2 countries to travel and visit as well as providing trade routes. Most of routes are called natural routes. However, there are also routes that the government allowed as the Checkpoint for Border Trade for trading between 2 countries. People can travel to Myanmar by car and boat, and there are 5 routes as follows:

The route of Mae Hong Son - Ban Huai Phung with a total distance of 48 kilometers from Mae Hong Son City to the border by using the highway no. 1095 around 15 kilometers until it meets the junction. Then, turn left to the high way no. 1285 to Huai Phung Village, Huai Pha Sub-District, and then it will access to the Myanmar at Wan Na Mon village, Homein village,  Langkho and Loilem District,  Shan State, by having total traveling period from Mae Hong Son City to the Checkpoint for Border Trade of Huai Phung Village for around 1.30 hours.

For the route of Mae Hong Son - Ban Nam Pieng Din, it can be accessed by both car and boat. If traveling by car, it starts from Mae Hong Son City by using the high way no. 108 for about 10 kilometer until it meets the junction. Then, turn right to the high way no. 3018 for 24 kilometers. Total time of traveling to the border is around 40 minutes. However, the local villagers are mostly traveling by long-tail boat along Pai River to the Myanmar at Ban Mai village, Bawlakhe province, Kayah State. Therefore, it takes totally about 2 hours for round trip.

For the route of Khun Yuam- Ban Huai Ton Nun with 50 kilometers long from Khun Yuam District to Myanmar Border, starting at Khun Yuam District by using high way no. 3007 through Ban Tor Pae Village, Huai Ton Nun Village, Mae Ngao Sub-District, and it takes about 2 hours until meeting the Checkpoint for Border Trade at the border and it accesses to the Myanmar at Ban Nam Mang village, Mese, Hpasawng, Bawlakhe province, Kayah State. This route is from Mae Hong Son to Naypyitaw City, the Capital City of Myanmar with total distance of 260 kilometers only.

The route of Mae Sariang-Ban Sao Hin has 91 kilometers for the distance from Mae Sariang District, drove through Sao Hin Sub-District, then access to Myanmar at Ban Nam Mang village, Mese, Hpasawng, Bawlakhe province, Kayah State. Total traveling time from Mae Sarieng City to the Checkpoint for Border Trade at the border is about 4.30 hours.

The route of Mae Sariang-Ban Mae Sam Lab has 46 kilometers for the distance from Mae Sarieng District to Myanmar border, starting from Mae Sariang City by using high way no. 1194 with totally 1.30 hour of traveling until it meets Mae Sam Lab Village. This side of border has Salween River block in the middle, so the only way to access Myanmar is by boat, by entering to Myanmar at Hpapun district, Hpa-an province, Kayin State.

All these routes are not accessible by foreign tourists since all routes have no Border Checkpoint, so it is allowed for only Thai and Burmese to use these routes for trades.
